I am proud of the County’s recent accomplishments and my contribution to the effort.

Specific accomplishments include:

• Preserved our Triple A bond rating and strengthened our fiscal position due to conservative budgeting and financial management
• Promoted strong economic development including expansion of Merck, Eisai, Cree, and AW North Carolina along with a number of new companies
• Worked with the School Board to increase the high school graduation rate
• Passage of ½ cent referendum to expand transit service
• Passage of ¼ cent referendum to enhance education services from pre-kindergarten to post-high school
• Recognized for leadership in education by the School Board Association
• Initiated strategic planning process with extensive community participation
• Renovated the Durham County Stadium and added track and field facilities
• Helped save the Lakewood YMCA by partnering with the Durham Public School to co-locate a Montessori Middle School
• Preserved teaching positions the last three years despite large state budget cuts
• Completed new library branches in all quadrants of the County
• Opened the Holton Career and Resource Center
• Working with Orange County, Chapel Hill and the City of Durham, we completed plan for New Hope Preserve
• Opened the Crisis Access Center to provide one-stop comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment
• Preserved over 2000 acres of open space and farmland
